The EMCR (Early-Mid Career Researcher) committee of STRIDE hosted a webinar on ‘Career Pathway and Development’. Four senior STRIDE investigators (Prof. Virginia Wiseman, Dr. Sophy Shih, Prof. Stephen Guy and Prof. Guy Marks) shared their career journeys and insights.

 The panel discussion covered career decisions and building research impact, offering practical insights for thriving in today’s competitive research environment. The session closed with an audience Q&A.

This seminar was held in response to direct feedback from STRIDE’s EMCR members, reflecting the committee’s ongoing commitment to building capacity and supporting career development for EMCRs.

STRIDE hosted 14 of its Chief and Associate Investigators at the Kirby Institute for a day long strategic planning meeting. Collaborators from Monash University, The Burnet Institute, The George Institute, Kirby Institute and the School of Population Health, UNSW Sydney came together for an engaging discussion on the future direction of the CRE.

23 April 2026

STRIDE hosted it’s first EMCR day – a special day dedicated to Early -Mid Career Researchers. The event was well attended with 24 EMCRs across the Kirby Institute and other STRIDE collaborators (University of Sydney, The George Institute, Monash University and School of Population Health – UNSW).

Participants had an opportunity to gain/enhance their skills in DCEs, integrating epi modelling and economic evaluation and an introduction to macroeconomics, presented by few of the STRIDE Investigators. The day ended with a research poster display from recipients of STRIDE funding.

The STRIDE CRE organised a two-hour grant writing workshop led by James Moran (Academic Storytelling). The interactive session was attended by 14 EMCRs (Early-Mid Career Researchers) and focused on crafting a compelling research narrative, with practical tips on articulating the problem, its significance, and the potential impact of the proposed work.

On July 19th in Bali, the NHMRC CRE STRIDE (Stronger Investments for Infectious Diseases) hosted a pre-congress session ‘Looking Beyond the Patient: Evaluating the Broader Costs and Impacts of Infectious Disease Interventions’ at the IHEA (International Health Economics Association) 2025 Congress. The session was well attended by about 50 researchers and policymakers from across the Asia-Pacific, to explore innovative approaches for evaluating the broad impacts of infectious diseases and related interventions. The speakers showcased methods – including dynamic transmission modelling, macroeconomic modelling, and discrete choice experiments – that extend beyond traditional health economics to better capture the societal and economic consequences of infectious disease threats. Importantly, the session provided a platform for continued conversations and partnerships as the STRIDE team strengthen the evidence base for infectious disease policy and investment worldwide.
